(Sydney: Thomas Richards) 1861. F'scap folio. Tied as issued. NOTE: John Tawell was a convict who was transported to Australia eventually becoming a freeman and a successful pharmacist. He returned to England. Following the death of his first wife he remarried but had a mistress Sarah Hart on the side. He poisoned Sarah on New Years Day 1845. He was hanged for her murder and he was the first murderer to be caught with the help of the newly developed telegraph. The implications of his death led to the 'Great Seal case' and a political crisis in 1861 between Governor Sir William Denison and Premier Charles Cowper who later resigned along with his entire ministry.
